When the third string broke

No objects moved for a few seconds, no birds chirped, waves stopped at the crests and the troughs became empty, clocks did not tick, the alarm which was ringing to wake me up paused for a few seconds, when I saw this tragedy unfold in front of my eyes. Plethora became empty and plenty became void.

The third string in my guitar broke today morning at 6:02 AM IST. Beleive it or not,it was not easy to see it happen. It was almost a week since I played my guitar, so I thought I have to do some practice today. Deciding against going to gym, I sat for my guitar practice session when I saw this tiny string break into shreds in front of my eyes.

There are a total of 6 strings(E,B,G,D,A,E) christened from first string(thinnest) to the sixth string(thickest).Today the third string that broke corresponds to the open G string. It’s literally not possible to play the instrument when any string gets broken. Generally playing a song involves strumming all the strings and hence the abscission of one string makes the whole instrument look null. See that's the specialty here. They all stand together and if one gets hurt, everybody waits till he returns from the hospital after getting the necessary treatment. The doctor here is guitar master and the patient is my guitar. How much shame should I carry on my shoulder? I don't know how to change the strings when it breaks? I can't tune my guitar on my own? Well they say it takes some time before you get to start doing this. Its been 3 months with my guitar and am still on a learning phase.

Once some 2 months back, I broke the first string and got it replaced. Now its the third string. Analyzing my progress in the past 3 months, its like this. I have learned to play 4 songs (3 Hindi and 1 Tamil) fully, am in the process of completing the first tutorial book (hopefully within this Sunday so that I can jump on to the second book), am learning chords (well this has been my toughest area. Am struggling to play this chord stuff. My fingers get hurt and hence I practice less.)Actually it should be the opposite, the more the fingers get hurt, the more it helps one to learn it better. The time given to me is June13 by which date I have to play the 16 chords given to me with absolute perfection. Well am determined to complete that in style.

There is a sincere desire to play it well, to rock with the guitar, to play it amazingly, to join a rock band sometime in the future. There is an overbearing urge to learn it fast and prove it in front of my master. He said no body has ever crossed the second book (there are 4 books altogether) and am eagled to cross that barrier. Being tigerishly competitive and ravenous for success is good at every stage and for every thing in life.

First fine for lane violation

Yesterday was a very nice experience for me. After a month of strenuous bike riding, I paid my first fine for lane violation near spencers. It happened at about 5.30 in the evening when I was on the way to spencers. There is stretch of some 200 meters where 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers have a separate lane to be followed, and me not knowing it properly went on the wrong lane (in fact 2 or 3 people were going in that way and so I just followed them). Now the inspector stopped everybody and he asked me to park the vehicle on the right hand side. The vehicle was looking amazingly brilliant (coz I cleaned it nicely the previous day). And with my Addidas cap and the coolers on, I stepped out of my bike, removed the cooler and cap and stood before the inspector.

Inspector: - You have come on a wrong lane. This lane is meant for 4 wheelers. You should h
ave come on the other lane.Show your license.
Krishna : - Sorry sir.(I took out my license very proudly and showed it to him.) I won't
repeat this mistake again. I didnt know this.
Inspector: - Where are you studying?
Krishna : - Am working in Cognizant, Software company.
Inspector: - Software company?
Krishna : - Yes sir.
Inspector: - Where is your father working?
Krishna : - In Engine Valves LTD.
Inspector: - Is it a Private company?
Krishna : - Yes sir.
Inspector: - Where do you stay?
Krishna : - I stay in Nanganallur.
Inspector: - Are you coming all the way from there? Where are you going here?
Krishna : - Yes sir. Am going to spencers. After this ill go home.
Inspector: - Okay this violation costs you to pay 400 Rs.
Krishna : - Sir Sorry.I don't have that much money with me now.(I took out my purse and
showed him.Thankfully only 70 rupees was there.)I will not repeat this mistake again.
Inspector: - Aha what shall we do now? You have to pay the fine.
Krishna : - Sir I don't have the money now. Also my bike is just a month old.First time am
coming here in my bike.So I didnt know the lane rules properly.(when I said this, inspector watched me from head to toe, looked at my Innocent face and felt that am a very nice fellow. In fact I am a nice fellow ).
Inspector: - Okay you have to pay some fine now.Okay pay 50 Rupees. And don't repeat this
mistake again.Am leaving you coz you are a new bike rider.
Krishna : - (gave him 50 bugs.) Thanks sir.Can you tell me the lane rules now?Which lane
should I follow when I go on the opposite side.

Then the inspector explained to me gracefully. I listened to him and then started my bike. A feeling of pride was there within me. I was very happy after speaking to a traffic inspector. Felt great in paying 50 rupees fine for the first time. And also was thrilled to pay 50 instead of 400.Was definitely an amazing experience I must say. I have definitely achieved something in my life.

Am hoping to achieve lot more accolades in my life because of my bike. It’s time for the first service. I have driven 606 kms till today morning. Should have given after completing 500 itself. Anyway I will give it this Saturday. Till now, I have put my vehicle down (slanting to my left) twice. Nothing happened to me and to my bike though the left foot rest has got tilted slightly. Anyway small things like this happen when you are trying big things in life. Keep trying big things anyway.
