Woods are lovely,dark and deep

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

So much meaning is conveyed in these lines. Just like Frost, there would have been so many times in our lives, when we would have stopped by the woods to enjoy the snowy evening. Imagining the owner of the woods to be living somewhere in the village or some obscure place, we relish the moments ecstasy of watching snowy woods.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

His little horse is really amazed (feels strange and unusual) by what his master is doing. He is sheltering in some place between woods and the almost frozen lake. Where will the horse eat? No farmhouse seems to be around the woods now. Even though he says its the darkest evening of the year, the whole forest is lit with dark green woods and the snow.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sounds the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

See how he depicts the silence of the dark woody evening. The only other sound present in the whole place is the sweep of an easy wind and that of the formed snow. How amazing must that sound be? Just imagine this.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Staring at these woods that are dark, lovely and deep, one would generally get lost in its amazing beauty. But, suddenly Frost realizes that he has got promises to keep and he has miles to cover before he can sleep in the woods.

So it applies to all of us who get lost in a lot of beauty staring and other dreamy fantasies, forgetting that we have our promises to keep and not giving a heed to the miles that we need to cover in order to reach our destination.

Maybe am just explaining the meaning of what I understood from frosts words, but I realize that the relation of his words to our lives applies to all of us in the same way. Only wish the miles are of lesser distance so that we can spend more time in the woods knowing that the next stop where our bus stops is where the mile ends.
